Making sense of church pioneering, presented by the Revd Dr Dan Drew

Revd Dr Dan Drew serves as Assistant Director of Mission and Ministry in the Diocese of St Albans, where he focuses on church planting and helping churches become younger and more diverse. He is passionate about raising up leaders—especially those whose voices are often overlooked—and creating opportunities for people to step into all that God is calling them to. Alongside this, Daniel is an Associate Priest at St Luke's in Luton, where he's involved in local ministry and enjoys being part of a growing, diverse church community. Dan and his wife Alex planted The Hub Church in Hitchin in their twenties, with a heart to reach people who wouldn't normally walk into church. That same passion continues to shape his work today—creating communities where people can belong, encounter Jesus, and grow as disciples. He is particularly interested in how culture, technology, and spirituality intersect, and how the church can respond with both courage and imagination

The Book of Revelation is the most influential book in the Bible on Christian worship, Christian art—and arguably Christian theology. Yet it is also the most complex, strange, and baffling book — if you don't know some key things about the way it was written, and the context of its world.

The Rev'd Dr Ian Paul will help us explore this extraordinary and powerful book — not by doing anything "magic", but by asking the same questions of it that we need to ask of all Scripture. When was it written? What kind of writing was it? What was the world like for those who first read it? and so on.

As well as deepening understanding of this remarkable book, the day will also help attendees develop wider skills for reading and interpreting Scripture more effectively.

Ian is a church leader, theologian and Bible teacher based in Nottingham. He has a ministry of teaching and writing, and produces the widely read blog Psephizo.com, where you can also find out more about him and his work.
